This is my 4th tattoo, done by Nate Hall at Legacy Iron Tattoo in Greensboro, NC. It took a little over 3 hours to
complete in one sitting.
“In this lake of shit we made, I refuse to sink”, a line by The Wonder Years that initially inspired this tattoo.
It’s still a little bloody, taken about an hour after completed. I struggle with depression and got this to represent how life is like sailing in the sea. You’re going to go through hardships, depression, and struggles in your life that will make the ride rough and you’re gonna have some scars and wounds, both emotionally and physically along the way. Through all of this, though, you can’t sink. You have to get through it and continue on.
The tears in the sails symbolize those scars and wounds you’re going to attain throughout life. The waves are japanese finger waves and were hand-drawn to go with the flow of my leg and work around my other tattoo.
I didn’t really know what to expect as far as a pain level. Some spots didn’t hurt and some really fucking sucked. On the shin bone and right below the knee were the worst. Imagine having 10 knives grind against your bare shin bone.
I’m so in love with this tattoo and love all of the color and detail.
